Despite rumors that actor Benedict Wong is leaving the series to focus on his film commitments, there are also rumors swirling that the story of Marco Polo Season 3 could focus on his character Kublai Khan.

According to a report by Parent Herald, there is a possibility that the anticipated third season will tackle Kublai Khan's showdown with Prester John, who in the season finale is leading an army headed towards the Khan's Mongol camp at Xanadu.

While Marco was able to warn Kublai about Prester John's arrival, the camp was found abandoned at the end of the finale with only Prester John's bloody staff left behind, The Wrap reported.

On the other hand, it is also possible that Kublai's storyline will end with the upcoming season since Marco Polo did not stay with him for a long time after all.

Meanwhile, Netflix President Ted Sarandos assured fans of the show that they are happy with its performance and lauded the series for accomplishing what it set out to do, which is introduce diversity and reach a global audience.

He said that they are currently in talks with several networks about the possibility of Marco Polo Season 3.

"If I'll put my money on it; I will bet that 'Marco Polo' will have a third season. Aside from these, the show is starting to get a global following. When it comes to Ben Wong, I guess it's logical if he'll have less apperance in 'Marco Polo Season 2' because based in history, Marco Polo didn't stay with Kublai Khan forever. So since the main character of the show is Marco Polo, it makes sense that the actor will eventually leave the show, but not this season just yet," he said.

Show creator John Fusco, in a guest post in Deadline also expressed his gratitude for being able to helm a show that represents diversity and proves that Hollywood does not discriminate based on race and is instead concerned about quality programming.
