Netflix series "Marco Polo" ended its second season with a cliffhanger where fans are shown the uncertain fate of Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong). The second season of "Marco Polo" has definitely left its fans asking for more details on their unanswered question but unfortunately, fans might have to wait until 2018 until they get their answers.

"Marco Polo" fans might have to wait a little bit longer before they figure out what happens to Kublai Khan and the Yuan dynasty. It seems that the show will allegedly experience a delay because "Marco Polo" writer John Fusco is currently juggling writing for "Marco Polo" and the screen adaptation of Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist."

The Weinstein company has recently transferred the ownership rights for the well-known novel "The Alchemist" to PalmStar Media for $6.5 million USD, and PalmStar Media is planning on monetizing what they paid for by immediately going for a screen adaptation written by "Marco Polo's" main writer, John Fusco.

Since Fusco is now said to be working on the screen adaptation of "The Alchemist" that is set to begin in the middle of 2017, it is suspected that "Marco Polo" might experience a delay until 2018, especially since Fusco acts as the main writer for the "Marco Polo" series despite having other writers work on other episodes of the Netflix series.

Though some fans worry that the Netflix series might be up for cancellation, the strong season 2 ratings of "Marco Polo" suggest a season 3 comeback, even if fan might have to wait for "Marco Polo" season 3 until 2018.

As of now, "Marco Polo" season 3 is rumored to pick up where it left off in season 2. Kublai Khan is speculated to still be a very important character in season 3. For "Marco Polo's" third season, the story is suspected to revolve around Wong's character as Kublai Khan is rumored to have a face off with his enemy, the mystic Prester John.

On another note, fans can expect the return of familiar faces in "Marco Polo" season 3, including Joan Chen as Empress Chabi and Lorenzo Richelmy as "Marco Polo." Netflix is also rumored to introduce new characters of Asian and European descent, as well as other villains in "Marco Polo" season 3.
