Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 fight rumors 2015: Rematch far from happening, both boxers going different paths

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. of the U.S. lands a left to the face of Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines (R) in the 11th round during their welterweight WBO, WBC and WBA (Super) title fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 2, 2015.Reuters

The undefeated Floyd Mayweather taking on former eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao again soon is unlikely since a number of top and more deserving contenders are gunning for the American including Hall of Famer Oscar De La Hoya.

Following their bout last May, Mayweather was open to facing Pacquiao in a rematch but revoked his statement after the Filipino slugger's camp divulged information regarding his shoulder injury.

The unbeaten 38-year-old believes Pacquiao and his camp are using the injury as an excuse for the loss.

Pacquiao went through shoulder surgery days after the fight to fix a torn rotator cuff and is recovering well according to Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.

A possible rematch is far from happening since Pacquiao will be out of action for 2015 and will likely fight again in the first half of 2016 according to Arum while Mayweather already announced two possible opponents for what could be his final career-bout this September.

In a video posted by Tha Boxing Voice in their Youtube channel, Mayweather told journalists "You've been doing your homework. There are two names out there that I'm going to fight. I'm either going to fight Karim Mayfield or Andre Berto in September."

Mayweather was asked in the video if he was serious about the selection and he compared Pacquiao's decision of fighting Chris Algieri before their bout.

Meanwhile, British slugger Amir Khan criticized Mayweather's selection and said the undefeated welterweight is avoiding him.

Khan recently defeated Algieri and believes he has done enough to take on Mayweather who he has been linked to fighting thrice but was denied.

"There is nothing more from their camp, Floyd is clearly avoiding me; that's the fight I want, I've proved myself in the welterweight division, so I don't know what more to do," Khan told The National.

He added, "I hear he wants an easy fight for his 49th and final fight; he has been mentioning names like Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield. Why not take the fight with me, if he thinks I am that easy?"

Along with Khan, undefeated boxers Kell Brook and Keith Thurman also expressed their desire to take on Mayweather.

De La Hoya, who considers coming out of retirement, said he wants to fight the best if he returns and a rematch against Mayweather is an option.
