McLaren Special Operations, the British automaker's personalization arm, has created the MSO X — a road-legal coupe inspired by the 570S GT4 race car.

MSO's newest bespoke project was commissioned by the largest McLaren retailer in the United States, McLaren Newport Beach. With a limited production run of just 10 examples, all MSO X models are already spoken for. According to the automaker, the MSO X collection showcases the vast customization options that they are able to provide customers.

"The aim of this project was to have a serious track car that could still be driven on the road and this finished project screams 'race car' to the casual onlooker," said Pietro Frigerio, McLaren Newport Beach's general manager.

The MSO X emulates the 570S GT4's exterior appearance to a tee. Each example also features a distinct color scheme and liveries inspired by McLaren's Formula One GTR endurance racers from the '90s.

Notable design elements include a functional roof snorkel for enhanced airflow, a pylon-mounted rear wing that adds up to 200 pounds of downforce, a vented carbon fiber hood with a satin finish, rear bumper cutouts for added weight savings, titanium exhaust tips and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Meanwhile, the MSO X has a track-focused, minimalist cabin. With a stripped-down interior, some areas of the carbon fiber chassis were intentionally left exposed. The cabin also features carbon fiber bucket seats, door sill panels, center console, steering wheel, instrument cluster and bulkhead. There are six-point harnesses for the race track alongside traditional seat belts for everyday driving.

In order to be usable off the track, the MSO X comes standard with parking sensors, rearview cameras, air conditioning and a vehicle lift for going over speed bumps and steep driveways.

Similar to the standard 570S, the MSO X is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
