The Miami Heat will miss one player in their backcourt as guard Tyler Johnson will need to undergo a surgery for a left shoulder injury suffered last December. 

In the official website of the Heat, the team made the announcement regarding Johnson's surgery and when it will take place. 

"The HEAT announced today that guard Tyler Johnson will undergo rotator cuff surgery in his left shoulder. The procedure will take place this Wednesday, February 3 at Doctors Hospital in Miami and be performed by HEAT team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick," the report read. 

Meanwhile, Yahoo Sports reported that the medical procedure will place Johnson on the shelf for around two months, and a timetable for his return will be determined once it is accomplished. 

Johnson reportedly injured the shoulder back in December, but he still tried to play through the pain. 

The second-year guard out of Fresno State was undrafted but impressed the Heat in his stints in the National Basketball Association Developmental League (NBA D-League) and the summer league. 

This season, Johnson became an important player to Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra's rotation, playing in already a career-best 36 games, averging 8.7 points, three rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 24 minutes of playing time per contest. 

The absence of the 23-year-old will be an issue that needs to be addressed immediately by Miami. 

Likely stepping up for the Heat with Johnson out is veteran point guard Beno Udrih, who has experienced having the starting job with main playmaker Goran Dragić recovering from an injury. 

The Heat are thriving this season and are currently the third best team in the Eastern Conference having a 27–21 record. 

Miami is on a four-game winning streak and aims to extend it when it begins a road trip today, Tuesday, taking on the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center.
