New speculations have arisen that Microsoft has killed off the Surface 2 tablet as the device is no longer spotted at the Microsoft Store and retailers. 

Although Microsoft has not confirmed that it has packed the Surface 2 tablet, Computer World reckons that the company has quit selling the device that has ARM architecture and Windows RT. According to the report, the device was out of stock at the Microsoft store since last week. This week, Best Buy listed no Wi-Fi models for sale. Lastly, online retailer Amazon has mostly refurbished units. 

"It is currently out of stock [and] unfortunately we do not have specific dates on when products are back in stock, [so] you would have to check back on the site regularly," a Microsoft Store sales representative told Computer World.

The Surface 2 is the only model that sports Windows RT, and it is unlikely that the Redmond-based company will offer a Windows 10 upgrade to the tablet or its predecessor. Windows 10 is Microsoft's biggest OS update for the next few years. 

Analysts believe that the tablet is gone since the tablet caused nothing but trouble for the company since its release. Within nine months, the tablet reportedly incurred a $900 million loss as the company offered discounts on the tablet and Microsoft spent heavily on marketing and advertising the Surface tablet. 

Conversely, the current Surface Pro 3 tablet-laptop hybrid helped the company boost its sales by 8 percent.  So while Microsoft puts the Surface 2 in the back burner, it will most likely focus on the successor of the Surface Pro 3.  

According to ongoing rumors, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is slated for release this fall alongside the official version of the Windows 10 operating system, which will give the tablet an edge over its competitors. Surface Pro 4 is also rumored to house Intel's Broadwell processor and 8 GB RAM.

However, at the moment, Microsoft has not announced anything official.
