Microsoft followers are still wondering if the long-rumored Surface Phone will ever see the light of day. Speculations regarding the Surface Phone's arrival has been going on for two years now, as tech enthusiasts thought that the success of the company's Surface lineup would result to a brand new smartphone under the same label. With the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, there is hope that the Redmond-based tech firm will at least mention the fabled Surface device.

Microsoft has been quiet regarding any plans for its mobile phone collection. Still, the rumors are rife that the company is secretly working on the Surface Phone to succeed the current Windows 10 mobile handsets. Perhaps the tech giant is just waiting for the right time and place to formally announce the Surface Phone, and according to Express UK, there is a chance that the rumored Microsoft handset will appear at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona next month.

There is no guarantee if the Microsoft Surface Phone will be one of the premium devices to be showcased at this year's MWC event. However, the recent patent leaks that have surfaced this month could be an indication that the Surface Phone will be out soon. The latest patent document spotted online pertains to a mysterious Microsoft mobile device that can be folded into a widescreen tablet. To note, there have been rumors that the Surface Phone, also dubbed as the Andromeda hybrid smartphone, will be the first foldable device from Microsoft.

The patent documents in question were submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), although it is uncertain if the device discussed in the filing is already in development.

Meanwhile, MSPowerUser reported that a Microsoft engineer might have spilled that the Surface Phone is indeed coming. The engineer mentioned in a conversation with Microsoft Asia Research Institute representatives that there are plans to make Cortana supported by the Surface Phone.
