AT&T has announced its Modio Smartcase that will be offered in the United States. While the accessory's protective padding will shield Apple's tablets from damage and wear and tear, the company also included another feature: it will allow iPad users to connect to 4G LTE networks, if they have purchased a Wi-Fi only iPad. For flexibility purposes, the Modio Smartcase will reportedly accommodate the following iPad models.

  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini

In addition, there are two other perks of owning the Modio Smartcase. First and foremost, the smartcase features a microSD slot, allowing iPad owners to expand their storage up to a capacity of 32 GB. This will no doubt be a welcomed feature since none of Apple's mobile products features a microSD slot. The other feature that the company's smartcase offers is a 4600 mAh dedicated battery that will provide the user with 10 hours of additional battery life, excluding the iPad's own battery life. Users who have subscribed to AT&T's 4G LTE service will also be able to monitor their cellular data consumption through the Modio Data application.

According to AT&T's website, "Simply download and install the AT&T Modio Data app and pair your case to manage your connection, monitor your data usage, and keep track of your content."

Even though the Modio Smartcase for the iPad mini is announced as "coming soon," AT&T has yet to divulge the price and availability. A case that can accommodate larger iPads is also expected to be released, as reported by MacRumors. iPad owners who are interested in purchasing the Modio Smartcase can inquire at AT&T stores or www.att.com
