'Mortal Kombat X' release news: Game's complete edition comes to PCs on Oct. 4

NetherRealm Studios

Although hardcore fans would prefer a confirmation of "Kombat Pack 3," another good thing is in store for "Mortal Kombat X," as the complete edition has been set for PC release

"Mortal Kombat XL," the complete edition of the current fighting franchise installment, is due to release for PC on October 4, publisher Warner Bros. has announced. The confirmation came after a number of teases from NetherRealm Studios' Ed Boon, and an announcement of a PC open beta prior to the announcement.

However, it is also revealed that for the "Mortal Kombat XL" for PC, development and updates will be handled by a third-party studio. The new complete edition for PC will be released by Qloc, instead of High Voltage (developer of original "Mortal Kombat X" for PC) or head studio NetherRealm Studios.

The port of "Mortal Kombat X" for PC is welcome news for hardcore players of the game. When the complete edition has been announced earlier this year, NetherRealm Studios has revealed that the title is only available for consoles. It had a $60 price tag for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though the "Premium Edition" now sells for $40, containing the base "Mortal Kombat XL" game plus "Kombat Pack 1."

Warner Bros. has yet to announce a price for the PC version, though players can expect it to be upwards of the original price. The new "Mortal Kombat XL" for PC already contains "Kombat Pack 2," which means players will have ready access to the Xenomorph from the "Alien" franchise; Leatherface from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series of films; Bo'Rai Cho; and Triborg.

In addition to the release of "Mortal Kombat XL" for PC on Oct. 4, players of the original "Mortal Kombat X" on PC will also receive a major update. "Additionally on that day, current owners of Mortal Kombat X on PC will be able to download the latest patch for free, giving players access to all of the latest balance updates as well as the enhanced online experience, that was available in the recent beta test for the game," according to the DLC's Steam page.
