The new Moto G series is already up for pre-orders. However, one noted change for the new lineup is that Lenovo has released at least two iterations for the fourth-gen version, the base model Moto G4, and its sibling, the G4 Plus.

Many will think that the new G4 Plus iteration is a bigger version of the base model, like most lineups that have "Plus" variants are. On the contrary though, the Moto G4 Plus and the base model Moto G4 have the same size and dimensions. Both sport a 5.5-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The two versions also feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset. Some of the specs are also similar, such as a 3,000 mAh battery and connectivity features.

However, the Moto G4 Plus performs slightly better than the base model of the fourth-gen Moto G edition, since users will have an option to go for a 4GB RAM version for the Moto G4 Plus through the MotoMaker. This option is not available for the base model, since the Moto G4 only has 2GB of RAM. While both versions come with 16GB of onboard storage, the G4 Plus can be customized to have 32GB and 64GB variants with the 4GB RAM option. Meanwhile, the two iterations support expandable storage of up to 128GB via microSD cards.

The Moto G4 Plus also has distinct features not available in the base model, such as a front-facing fingerprint sensor.

In addition to the RAM capacity and fingerprint scanner, the Moto G4 Plus also offers a better camera setup. The base model Moto G4 has a 13MP main camera at the back, while the G4 Plus has a 16MP setup. In addition, the Plus version offers above-average image capture features like laser and phase detect autofocus.

Lenovo has yet to announce the global release of the new lineups, although it is already confirmed that the U.S. release for the unlocked versions will start shipping out on July 12.
