Moto Z Play release date: Phone rumored to launch by the holidays, come with 3.5mm jack

A look at the Moto ZFacebook/moto

Although Motorola has already unveiled the Moto Z and Moto Z Force, the company has yet to officially unveil the Moto Z Play. However, according to a report from Ecumenical News, the phone might be unveiled during this September and be released to the public by the holidays, potentially by late November or early December.

If this is true then the phone will be unveiled right when the Moto Z and Moto Z Force are released to the public, ensuring that the devices are all properly spaced between their release. It is noted that this is a practice done by other major companies such as Apple to prevent their own products from detracting from the sales of their other items.

According to a report from Phone Arena, one of the key potential differences of the Moto Z Play from the previously two announced phones is that it might come with a traditional 3.5mm earphone jack. Both the Moto Z and Moto Z Force did not include the earphone jack, utilizing instead a USB Type-C port which can be used for earphones but is also needed for data transfering and charging.

A separate report from The Verge showcases two leaked images of the Moto Z Play, both of which showcase a traditional earphone jack instead of the USB Type-C port. This would mean consumers would not need to purchase a brand new kind of earphones or an adaptor just to plug in their headsets to their phone.

In regards to the phone's main specs it is expected to come with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, native 32GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD slots, 3GB RAM, Android Marshmallow and will feature a 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Other features and unique built-in options are still unknown.

Motorola has yet to comment on any of the rumors regarding the phone's release and the inclusion of a traditional 3.5mm earphone jack.
