Lenovo has decided to drop the standard 3.5 mm audio jack and was said not to feature it on its Moto Z and Moto Z Force flagships. However, leaks showcasing the upcoming Moto Z Play show that the port will be returning, although there will still be a separate USB Type-C port.

According to Phone Arena, images of an upcoming Lenovo device, purported to be the Moto Z Play, continue to make their rounds online. The images reveal that Lenovo may have opted to bring back the standard 3.5 mm audio jack in the lower version of the flagship lineup. This is different from the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force since the iterations only have a USB Type-C port and will need a 3.5 mm adapter for earphones and headsets.

While it is unclear why Lenovo choose to bring back the old audio jack standard, user feedback on the earlier-released Moto Z lineups may have been a factor.

Meanwhile, aside from the leaked images, a supposed specs sheet for the Moto Z Play also surfaced online. Supposedly, the upcoming iteration is a modest model in the Moto Z lineup, featuring an above-average Snapdragon 625 chipset, paired with 3GB of RAM. There is also 32GB of onboard storage but it is unclear if it will have microSD support. Meanwhile, there is a 16MP camera setup on the back, while the front selfie snapper has a 5MP assembly. The Moto Z Play will also reportedly come out with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Being a late 2016 release, it is expected that it will also be updated with Android 7.0 Nougat sometime in the future.

Lenovo has yet to confirm the Moto Z Play release, although with the tech maker's statement that it will continue the lineups from the old Moto series, a Play edition of the recently released Moto Z flagship is already expected.
