A day after the nominees for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards was announced, a feud broke out on social media as two of the biggest female pop stars in the music industry had an exchange over the VMA's Video of the Year award. 

The Twitter feud began on Tuesday, June 21, when Nicki Minaj tweeted about not being nominated for Video of the Year for her song "Anaconda."

She wrote, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for video of the year." 

Taylor Swift, who was nominated for her "Bad Blood" music video, took offense and wrote back, "@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot." 

Aside from Swift, the other nominees for the said award are Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and Kendrick Lamar. 

Minaj responded directly to the "Blank Space" singer's post, saying that she must not have read her tweets. 

"Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this @taylorswift13," she wrote. 

The "Super Bass" rapper went on to tweet that she was confused as to why the "Bad Blood" singer tweeted her, to which Swift replied, "@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on." 

Minaj went on to clarify her point on Instagram, posting an excerpt from a Marie Claire article, explaining her irritation over beauty standards between African American women and Caucasian women. 

For now, there seems to be peace between Swift and Minaj as neither woman has taken to social media again to resume their Twitter exchange. But on Wednesday, July 22, Katy Perry, who has been rumored to have an ongoing feud with Swift, jumped into the fray on the site to post her take on the issue. 

The "California Girls" hitmaker tweeted to her 72.9 million followers, "Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…"

Minaj, 32, immediately made Perry's tweet a favorite of hers. 

Other celebrities have commented on Swift's and Minaj's tweets, with "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul inviting the two to reconcile their differences over coffee and pancakes, while Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars mocked the Twitter feud with a hilarious exchange of their own on the website.
