NBA rumors: Golden State Warriors to make aggressive pitch at Kevin Durant

The Golden State Warriors are one of the hottest teams right now but it looks like the team is far from satisfied. In fact whether they make it all the way this year or not, the fact remains they have room for one more superstar.

And if the word of Mychal Thompson is to be taken seriously, the Warriors are going to join the race for the services of Kevin Durant.

Thompson, a former Lakers center and the father of Klay Thompson, had it under good authority to reveal that the Warriors will be one of the many teams expected to court Durant, someone who is currently recuperating on the injured list of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

There is no telling whether Durant would be jumping ship although his run of injuries could be a cause for concern for the Thunder.

There is also the sudden rise of Russell Westbrook which could mean the team may survive even without Durant though they did fail to make the playoffs with only Westbrook at the helm.

Then there is the celebrated coaching change. Durant and the rest of the team were not consulted on the move which saw the firing of Scott Brooks and hiring of Gators coach Billy Donovan. On whether this would somehow bother Durant remains to be seen since it cannot be measured on just how close Durant and Brooks were before.

For Durant, he has hinted before that he could consider Washington as a destination, a place that is no stranger to him. But other teams like the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Knicks are expected to go after the 2014-15 NBA MVP as well, making the 2016 free agency pretty much something to watch.

Of course, all would depend on how Durant performs in the 2015-16 season. Donovan will be under pressure to prove his worth and show what he can do with two legit NBA superstars. If Durant is happy with Donovan, he may likely stay. If not, well, may the best offer win.
