'NCIS: LA' season 8 spoilers: New showrunner named, wedding bells will ring in show's return

CBS
"NCIS: LA" season 8 hails a veteran as its new showrunner.

"NCIS: Los Angeles" season 8 has found a replacement for Shane Brennan, who has stepped down as showrunner after fulfilling the responsibility since the show's beginning.

R. Scott Gemmill is replacing him, which should dispel all worries about "NCIS: LA" season 8 since, like Brennan, Gemmill was involved in the show in all seven seasons but as executive producer. Add to that, he has also written 30 episodes on the show.

Brennan will still be very much involved in "NCIS: LA" season 8, since he will be executive producer for the season. That means that Gemmill and Brennan will simply swap roles.

As for what to expect in "NCIS: LA" season 8 story-wise, fans of Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) will be happy to know that the couple will take their relationship even further.

"We will not see, I don't think, a proper proposal until next season, because we have an idea for how to do that that I want to play out," Gemmill told TV Guide.

"NCIS: LA" season 8 will not see Deeks become a daddy, but kids are still in the cards for the fan-favorite couple. Gemmill wants the pair to take it one step a time.

"Once they are officially engaged, then I think that conversation will come back again. And it's tricky, because neither one of them wants to give up their career," he said.

"And can you have two parents in life-and-death situations on a daily basis? Is that proper parenting, or is that negligence in some way?" the newly-promoted "NCIS: LA" season 8 showrunner went on to say.

For now, the couple will have to take things slow. After all, prior to "NCIS: LA" season 8, they already made a big step in the relationship by deciding to live together.

"NCIS: LA" season 8 is expected to premiere on CBS this September on a new timeslot — Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
