"Need for Speed Payback" is already in its first month of release, and on Tuesday, Dec. 19, its first-ever big content update will go live, an early Christmas gift by Ghost Games and EA.

The update is titled "Speedcross," and it features a lot of changes and additions to "NFS Payback" gameplay. Speedcross is a new game mode that lets players score as much as they can on a pre-determined course, mainly Drift Zones, Jumps, Speedtraps, and Smackables.

"Take control of Mac as you go up against a number of drivers from all over the world, with cities such as Palmont, Bayview, Rockport, Fairhaven and Olympic City all represented, with the ultimate goal of beating the reigning champion, The Barracuda," read the official announcement.

With Speedcross, players will be open to sixteen new events which will be split into four zones-- Canyon, Airfield, Construction and Ember valley. As players control Mac, they will drive a Mini John Cooper Works Countryman, which Rav lets him borrow after the Speedcross driver who's supposed to own the car mysteriously disappeared.

Aside from the Mini John Cooper Works Countryman, Speedcross will also add an Infiniti Q60 S, a Nissan 350Z, a Ford Focus RS and a Dodge Charger.

Those who have already owned a Deluxe Edition of the "Need for Speed Playback" will get the Speedcross update for free. Those who haven't will have to purchase the content for a separate price.

The upcoming update will also open the availability of owning the abandoned cars currently seen in Fortune Valley. According to the update, more and more abandoned cars will be hidden in Fortune Valley, waiting for the right owner to come along. The likes of which include a Volvo Amazon P130, Plymouth Barracuda, Nissan Skyline 2000 GTR, BMW M3 Evolution II E30, and even a Mazda RX-7 Spirit R.

Dec. 19 will also mark the addition of a new game mode to Speed lifts, called Drift Runs. The new game mode will be based on the Drift Trial events played by the single player of NFS Payback. 10 different drift runs will be available, and up to eight players can join the event.

Steering Wheel Support and new BMW M Performance Parts will also be coming to the update. Meanwhile, "Need for Speed Payback" Speedcross update will go live on Dec. 19.
