'New Girl' season 6 spoilers: Jesse and the gang to hang out with the 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' crew in October crossover

Jesse and company are crossing paths with Jake and the gang in the upcoming "New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" crossover.FOX

The worlds of Jesse Day (Zooey Deschanel) and Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) are about to become one with FOX staging a "New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" crossover.

In an official statement picked up by IGN, "New Girl" creator and executive producer Elizabeth Meriwether said that the crossover is "the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it."

She added that "New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will "proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s."

The merger is somehow a nod to NBC's infamous "Alf" and "Gilligan's Island" crossover in the 1980s. In line with this, Meriwether recognizes that they have "big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone."

Jesse and the gang will discover their fellow crazies at Jake's workplace on Sunday, Oct. 11. Notably, this is not the first FOX crossover event and this certainly is not the last.

"Bones" and "Sleepy Hollow" also crossed paths last year and the ratings were off the charts. It remains to be seen if this will be the case in this new crossover attempt.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-creator and executive producer Dan Goor also teased that the fusion of "New Girl" and his sitcom is "just the first step."

As for the plot that will bring the two worlds together, it will reportedly be through Winston (Lamorne Morris), whose new career as a cop might lead the gang to an adventure New York, where the crossover is set.

It is also rumored that Jesse's band and Jake's squad will play a good game of True American, a favorite in "New Girl" that should be extra entertaining with both parties involved.

In related news, "New Girl" season 6 will see Deschanel taking on a directorial role in the premiere. Also, Megan Fox is set to reprise her role as Reagan in the new season.

She was originally brought in to fill the gap left by Deschanel during her maternity leave, but her performance was a big hit she had to be brought back.

"New Girl" season 6 premieres Sept. 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
