Apple released the dates for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Thursday, and as usual, it will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. The event will take place June 2-6 and this year, registration is quite different.

In 2013, WWDC sold out within two hours of ticket release. This year, Apple will be avoiding that by using a lottery system to hand out tickets. Attendees of this year's conference will be randomly selected. Developers hoping to be picked for attendance have until April 7 at 10 a.m PT to sign up on the event website here.

Every year, Apple unveils new software enhancements at WWDC. Many predict that this year's event will incorporate the release of iOS 8 and OS 10x10. The LA Times speculates that the company may announce MacBook Air laptops with high-resolution Retina displays.

Lottery winners will have the opportunity to buy a ticket for $1599 until April 14 at 5 p.m. Pacific. The company has stated that once purchased, tickets cannot be resold, transferred, or given away to another person. However, if you register for the lottery and change your mind about wanting to attend, you can withdraw your submission by April 7 at 10 a.m. PT, reports Macworld.com.

In addition to lottery tickets, Macworld.com also reports that scholarships will be available for 200 students around the world. For the first time, the National Center for Women and Information Technology will provide the scholarships specifically for female engineers and programmers. Student attendees between the ages of 13 and 17 who hope to attend will need to have their application filled out by parents or guardians who are eligible to attend.

This year's sessions will not be streamed but Apple's "State of the Union" address on Monday and the Apple Design Awards will be, including videos of all the sessions, will be posted to Apple's WWDC website after they happen.
