"Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams and "The Witch" star Anya Taylor-Joy are a few of the talents slated to portray the next-generation mutants in the upcoming Fox movie, "The New Mutants." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy will portray Magik, the sister of X-Men bruiser Colossus, the mutant who appeared in "Deadpool." Her character will be a sorceress who can use teleportation discs to travel. Meanwhile, Williams will portray Wolfsbane, a young lycanthrope with a troubled past.

Prior to the announcement, Williams was already rumored to portray one of the lead characters of the film. The actress has also previously expressed her desire to do so. She once said that she "would absolutely love to be a part of it."

According to director Josh Boone, he already wanted to cast both actresses last year but was only able to do so recently as he was waiting for the film to be given the greenlight. Aside from the aforementioned mutants, the gang also consists of a Native American named Danielle Moonstar, a Brazilian Casanova called Sunspot, and a Kentucky native who calls himself Cannonball. As of the moment, the production team is looking for the best actors to portray the remaining roles.

"The New Mutants" was first published in the 1980s by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. The "X-Men" spin-off was well-received by readers which, to this day, remains a favorite read.

"The Fault in Our Stars" director Boone has been assigned to "The New Mutants." Boone is working alongside Knate Gwaltney for the film's script. The film's producers include Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt.

"The New Mutants" will begin production this July. The film is slated to hit theatres on April 13, 2018.

More updates should arrive in the following months.
