New York Knicks roster rumors: Could another Harvard graduate show promise?

The New York Knicks are trying to find players to fill up their roster and given the available talent left in the free agent market, their selection could be coursed through some unknowns.

In fact, it looks like the Knicks may have to do some trial-and-error with unknown players since it failed to land any potential players that could make a dramatic impact for the coming season.

No offense to new recruits Arron Afflalo and Robin Lopez of course, but the two new faces are hardly what one may call ample elements that could catapult the Knicks into instant contenders.

Heading into training camp, the Knicks will have to see which of their invitees could be suited to play for the Knicks this coming season, a list that includes a former Harvard standout named Wesley Saunders.

Wesley who? Well he is technically an unknown and someone who went undrafted in the last NBA draft. But why is the guy getting attention?

Aside from the fact that he comes from a school where Jeremy Lin came from, Saunders is a four-time Ivy League Champion. And with that, president Phil Jackson thinks that there could be more than meets the eye for Saunders who was signed to a partially guaranteed contract as tweeted by Shams Charania of Real GM recently.

Saunders averaged 17 points per game and was the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2014. Could those credentials be enough for the Knicks to put on a smile?

Well it would all depend in the upcoming training camp. Saunders will be there along with some other names such as Darion Atkins who signed a similar partial guaranteed deal.

If both fail to live up to expectations, chances are they will eventually end up in the NBA D-League with the Westchester Knicks. The NY Knicks can opt to waive them if they don't make the grade but if the initial prognosis is to be believed, the two could make the lineup if they impress Jackson and head coach Derek Fisher.

A pair of surprise packages for the Knicks next season? Let us wait and see how things turn out at the Knicks training camp.
