New York Mets captain David Wright is headed to the right direction with his recovery from spinal stenosis and is reportedly given clearance for baseball-related activity, which he may be doing starting next week.

According to reports, Mets manager Sandy Alderson told reporters Thursday about the progress on Wright's condition, although he did not give any timetable for his return.

"He's been involved in very limited baseball activity while in California. If things go as we expect between now and the end of this week, I do expect him back in New York early next week to begin some baseball activity with us," Alderson said according to ESPN.

Wright was placed on the 15-day disabled list last April initially because of a hamstring strain before being diagnosed with a spinal stenosis a month after, which sidelined him from competition since then.

In a report by ESPN, a team official said that the Mets captain might only need two and a half to three weeks to return to the majors once he fully begins doing baseball activity.

Meanwhile according to SB Nation, the Mets placed the 32-year-old player on the 60-day disabled list while they are waiting for the progress he will be making once he starts baseball activities next week.

In other Mets news, the club agreed to trade for third baseman Juan Uribe and outfielder Kelly Johnson from the Atlanta Braves.

In exchange for the veterans, the Mets will be sending minor league pitchers John Gant and Rob Whalen.

Uribe will now be heading to his third team this season after the Los Angeles Dodgers traded him to the Braves earlier this year.

The 32-year-old athlete is the starting third baseman for the Braves and may get ample playing time with the Mets in Wright's absence.

Meanwhile, Johnson was signed to a minor league deal by the Braves before getting a roster spot and being given regular playing time this season.
