Nintendo announced that it will shut down services related to Miitomo app on May 9.

In a post on the official Miitomo website, Nintendo announced that it will officially end Miitomo's services on May 9. Nintendo also mentioned that the sale of Miitomo coins ended on Jan. 24. Miitomo is the first social networking mobile application (app) developed by Nintendo for iOs and Android. It was released on March 17, 2016.

According to Nintendo, a message informing users that Miitomo's services have ended will pop up when the app is launched after May 9. Miitomo's features will also be unusable after the app shuts down — users will not be able to see their messages nor answers and the items that were obtained in the app will also be unusable. Users can transfer their Mii characters to their respective Nintendo Accounts by linking it to Miitomo, although their characters' personality and other information will not be transferred. Nintendo also announced that Sidekick Mii characters will be deleted. Users can save their Sidekick Mii characters by saving them as QR Codes before May 9 where they can be transferred to Mii Maker on either Nintendo 3DS or Wii U.

Furthermore, users are warned that they will not be able to view their Miifotos after the app shuts down. These include the Miifotos shared in the users' social media accounts. Users are encouraged to save their Miifotos to their smart devices instead. Moreover, Nintendo announced that Miitomo-themed icons and clothing items in users' Nintendo Account or Super Mario Run game will not be displayed after the app's services end.

In order to repay the users who have supported the app, Nintendo launched an event entitled "Final Thank You Festival," for users to enjoy before May 9. Nintendo will be giving users, who will be using Miitomo, daily login bonuses. Since purchasing Miitomo coins are no longer available, Nintendo is giving users an opportunity to earn coins and collect items they wish to buy giving them daily bonuses which include Miitomo coins and Game tickets.

Nintendo also launched the final Miifoto event where users are encouraged to tweet their favorite Miitomo memories. The event is from Jan. 24 to April 18. Interested users must include the following event-specific hashtags — #NintendoEvent, #Miitomo_Memories, #Miitomo and #Miifoto. In addition, Nintendo announced that until May 9, all the questions in Answer Central and the question of the day will be all about Miitomo memories. Users are also encouraged to share their questions.
