NYC woman abandons her baby on a subway platform [VIDEO]
New York City police have arrested a woman accused of abandoning a 10-month-old baby on a subway platform on Monday.
Frankea Dabbs, 20, was charged with felony abandonment and misdemeanor child endangerment on Tuesday. She allegedly left her daughter on the north-bound 1 train platform at Columbus Circle around noon.
NYPD spokesman Christopher Pisano reported an eyewitness' account.
"She was on the train," he told Reuters on Tuesday. "She exited and left the stroller on the platform and then got back onto the train."
A woman saw the abandoned baby on the platform, and stayed with her for about 20 minutes while waiting for someone to retrieve the child. When no one came, she called the police.
The NYPD released surveillance video of Dabbs entering a turnstile with the baby in a stroller, and a tip led to her arrest at Starbucks on 71st St. and Broadway around 12:30 a.m.
Police said Dabbs has been arrested in multiple states for breaking and entering, assault, prostitution, and drug charges. NBC New York reported that the woman may be homeless.
The baby was taken to St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center, and is in good condition. She is now in the custody of the NYC Administration for Children's Services.
