'Outlast 2' release date news: Red Barrels shows new, creepy character Sullivan Knoth

With the release of the highly anticipated and feared horror game "Outlast 2" just looming in the horizon, the developer has revealed a new character that will surely haunt everyone's nightmares for days to come, Sullivan Knoth.

A trailer for the game features deeply religious overtones, fitting for the reveal of the new character. Knoth is given an elaborate backstory, according to IGN. Knoth was the kind of person who would turn to the Evangelical radio whenever he wanted to find peace from his troubles. Of course, while the talks themselves did nothing to alleviate his stress, according to him, the static of the radio seemed to emanate the voice of God.

Add that to the fact that he claimed to have seen the Prophet Ezekiel, Knoth seemingly had found a new purpose in life. With that, he began forming a cult on a New Mexico ranch, where he managed to draw many to his cause. He encouraged the women to "breed frequently," and it is said that he impregnated many of them himself. Furthermore, he was even in charge of delivering the babies himself. Ultimately, it resulted in the authorities arresting the majority of the cultists in his compound.

Knoth, devastated from all this, took flight to the wilderness. He was searching for another sign from God, who told him to have one of his eyes sliced open so he could see the "true vision." As he did what was required, he saw an isolated town where his flock would thrive -- a town he would call Temple Gate.

The first "Outlast" game featured lots of uniquely disturbing characters with complex backstories, and it's a pleasing sight for both old and new players that the trend still continues. "Outlast II" still doesn't have a definite release date, but it's expected to hit the shelves by fall this year.
