Amir Khan is a fighter that many see as a viable alternative to fight Manny Pacquiao if a proposed super fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. falls through. Some reports have even suggested that the British boxer was already in talks with Pacquiao's camp long before the recent developments over a dream bout with Mayweather.

Given the close history between the boxers, many are even touting the bout between Pac-Man and Khan as a matter of simply "when will it happen?" indicating that a match up is inevitable.

According to a report from the Manila Standard, the fight could even happen later this year or early next year. As far as Khan is concerned, he is reportedly ready to step up and rumble with Pacquiao should there be any hint that the Filipino fighter's much awaited bout with Mayweather falls through.

Khan has been on the rise of late, coming off two impressive victories against Luiz Collazo and Devon Alexander. With those stirring wins, Khan has established himself as a credible challenger to face either Pacquiao or Mayweather Jr.

Fans may remember that Khan could have been Mayweather's opponent last year, but a last minute change saw that fight fall through.

However, now instead of Mayweather it seems that that Pacquiao could be the most likely opponent if Khan is to face off against one of the big two. According to reports, it was Pacquiao's adviser, Michael Koncz, who came up with the idea of taking on Khan long before Khan stepped into the ring against Alexander.

Khan used to be under the wing of Freddie Roach and was an occasional sparring mate of the Filipino boxer. Khan has since flown from Roach's wing, and is currently the WBC welterweight Silver champion.

But all these plans could depend entirely on what Mayweather plans to do. The undefeated American boxer has repeatedly said that nothing has been agreed upon and that negotiations are still ongoing. For fans, a Pacquiao vs Mayweather super bout is obviously the fight everyone wants to see, however, a Khan vs Pacquiao match up would capture the imagination of many, especially among British fans.
