Pastor Francis Chan, former teaching pastor of Cornerstone Community Church, says being a disciple for God does not always make sense.

"When I was a kid, we used to play a game called 'Simon Says,'" Chan shares in a video which was posted on the Facebook page of a Texas-based group called Verge Network.

The game requires three or more players, with one of them taking the role of "Simon." The person who plays "Simon" is the one issuing instructions, such as "jump in the air" or "tap your head," while the other participants do their best to follow.

"It was a very simple game, but it's so weird how in the Church, 'Jesus Says' is a totally different game," continues Chan. "If Jesus says something, you don't have to do something, you just have to memorise it... You study it, you memorise it... it doesn't make sense a lot of thing we do."

He then gave an example. Chan says he often tells his daughter to clean her room. In time, she says she's memorised the instruction, and can even say it in Greek. "My friends are going to come over and we're going to study what it would look like if I cleaned my room," her daughter would even tell him.

One of the things Jesus says to do is to go and make disciples. While people have memorised it, only a few have really done so.

Chan says people are going to come face to face with God one day, and when that time comes, it won't really matter what people have memorised. What's important is what actions people have taken to carry out God's instructions.

Going back to God's order to create disciples, Chan quoted the Bible verses Matthew 28:18-20, which reads, "Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

"Start making disciples," Chan says.
