Despite being involved in trade rumors this offseason, linebacker Mychal Kendricks will be staying with the Philadelphia Eagles after he was signed to a four-year extension contract which will earn him $29 million.

Kendricks was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract if he was not signed to a new deal.

The 24-year-old linebacker's new pact with the Eagles has $16.4 million guaranteed and will earn him as much as $31.5 million with incentives.

Kendricks will be getting an average of $7.25 million annually with the new extension contract.

According to NFL.com, since Kendricks was an undersized linebacker, he was subject to trade talks although Eagles head coach Chip Kelly assured earlier this month that he would not be going anywhere.

Now that he is signed to a new deal, Kendricks said all his focus will be on football and becoming the best.

"I truly believe in what we're doing here. I feel like I'm a part of something special and I feel like we're doing things that no other entity in the league is doing," Kendricks also said, according to CSNPhilly.com.

He added, "There's no other team doing the things that we're doing, and I'm happy to be a part of it, and I really believe in this team. I just feel like we're on a path to greatness. I feel it."

The deal now makes Kendricks one of the major players for Philadelphia especially on defense .

Last season, Kendricks played in 12 games and had 83 tackles, four sacks with three forced fumbles for the Eagles who missed the playoffs after finishing the regular season with a 10–6 record.

The Eagles will be in action this Saturday taking on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field as they look to remain undefeated in the 2015 preseason following wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens.

Philadelphia will close their preseason against the New York Jets on Sept. 3 and will open the 2015 season on the road against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
