Despite the big growth of Nintendo with its Nintendo Switch, Sony's PlayStation 4 (PS4) still undoubtedly tops the charts. With the PS4 Pro already being out, fans are wondering when the PlayStation 5 will be coming out. Recently, rumors say that dev kits for the PS5 have already been apparently shipped out.

People expected Sony to make a big reveal with their new PS5 during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) happening this June. While that is just a few months away, rumors have been popping up about the PS5. According to industry insider Marcus Sellars, Sony has shipped out PS5 dev kits to third parties.

According to Neoseeker, those who have been following the trends of the releases for the past PlayStation consoles will know that the PS5 is definitely coming soon. The trend appears to be a six- to seven-year gap between consoles.

The original PlayStation came in back in 1994 while the PS2 followed in 2000. PS3 then also came in by 2006 while the PS4 came in 2013 specifically a few days before the PS3's seventh year. Now that it is 2018, it would seem likely for Sony to release PS5 dev kits already. Following the trend, the PlayStation 5 could come out by 2019 or 2020.

Of course, this is still rooted in what Sellars has mentioned. However, for those who have been reading about rumors on consoles, Sellars has a reputation for giving correct leaks. One of the most recent ones is his confirmation on the "Spyro the Dragon" remaster trilogy.

Although of course, Sellars is not infallible. E3 is just a few months away and maybe Sony will then be prepared to confirm the PS5. If not by then, Sony could at least be showing some teasers of some sort by the end of the year.
