The "Pokemon" game series, from all the way back to when it was still just a GameBoy Advance title, has always featured Pokemon in a turn-based combat. With the latest "Pokemon" game to be featured on the Switch, rumors are saying that it will no longer feature this traditional combat mechanic.

According to PokeJungle, Pokemon battles will now be three-dimensional (3D), instead of the classic turn-based combat. The new title will possibly be similar to "Pokken Tournament DX," where Pokemon trainers will supposedly be able to control their Pokemon as they move, attack, and dodge enemy attacks.

Although there is not much specific detail about this, rumors also say that the new game will also feature Z-moves. Z-moves may be triggered using some kind of combination using the Joy-Con. In addition, the new "Pokemon" Switch title might also no longer feature Mega Evolutions. 

The last part of the rumor is that the game will be set in Spain or Italy. As the game will change combat mechanics, the entire game will actually be reflected in balancing both innovation and tradition. The rumored change in setting is further fueled by the fact that Junichi Masuda, the director of developer Game Freak, has taken trips to Spain. That also comes after the latest "Pokemon" movie features Ash wearing a jacket with Spanish-style collar.

Although there are plenty of rumors around whenever there is a new upcoming "Pokemon" game, the source does seem to have credibility. They previously predicted that the Team Rocket Head, Giovanni, will be making a return, as well as the existence and relevance of the then new Rainbow Rocket. Note that they brought these up few months even before the company released teasers of Giovanni.

These are all still rumors and fans will have to wait for any official confirmation. The latest "Pokemon" game for the Switch would be out by late 2018 or early to mid-2019.
