Swiss authorities on Thursday detained two FIFA officials based on arrest requests submitted by the US Department of Justice, Switzerland's Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) said.

"They are being held in custody pending their extradition," the FOJ said in a statement. "According to the US arrest requests, they are suspected of accepting bribes of millions of dollars."

FOJ said it would issue another statement with the names of those who have been arrested later on Thursday.

FIFA it was cooperating with the authorities.  

"FIFA became aware of the actions taken today by the US Department of Justice," it said in a statement. "FIFA will continue to cooperate fully with the US investigation as permitted by Swiss law, as well as with the investigation being led by the Swiss Office of the Attorney General."

A two-day meeting of FIFA's executive committee is taking place in the city to vote on reforms following a wave of corruption scandals that has struck international football's governing body. 

The hotel is where seven FIFA officials were arrested in May, also at the request of US authorities. 

According to the FOJ, the two people arrested this morning are alleged to have taken bribes for selling marketing rights for with football tournaments in Latin America and World Cup qualifying matches.
