As a follow-up to a previous report here on ChristianToday, more details regarding the plot and characters of the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie have emerged via a report from Heroic Hollywood. The details build upon the detailed intro where Zordon, the Red Ranger during the Cretaceous Period, defeats the witch Rita Repulsa.

According to the report, Zordon and his team of Power Rangers detonate a black hole in order to defeat Rita and her general, Goldar. The film then jumps forward to the present day, 65 million years later, wherein the five teenagers who eventually become the Rangers are introduced.

The film takes place int he fictional city of Angel Grove in California. Jason, Billy, Zack, Kimberly, and Trini are all 16-year-old teenagers who discover a T-Rex fossil via Google Earth. When they go to check it out, they find the Power Coins which grant the abilites of a Power Ranger.

Rita Repulsa has somehow survived her fight with Zordon and has crash landed in Russia. She plans on stealing gold to rebuild her old general, Goldar. According to the report, she will be able to accomplish this task in 71 hours.

Zordon then awakens in a glass tube, now in a ghostly form. He is greeted by a robot named Alpha 5 who informs him they have been marooned on the planet Earth for 65 million years. Zordon then becomes aware of Rita Repulsa's existence and her plan to revive Goldar. They also learn that the coins have been activated.

Zordon also expresses his doubt. He tells Alpha 5 that the inhabitants of the planet, human beings, are not yet strong enough to become Power Rangers, let alone five teenagers with only 71 hours before Rita is able to accomplish her plans. He still goes with it, hoping that the new Power Rangers will pull together in time to save the world.

The characters are all given basic traits at this point: Jason is a rugged, masculine type who is dating Kimberly, a detailed perfectionist. Trini is a loner, Billy is a computer whiz and genius, while Zack is described as a ladies' man.

"Power Rangers" is currently slated to hit theaters in January 2017.
