Premier Christian Media Group & Help the Aged Reveal Public’s Greatest Fear

Premier Christian Media Group has issued a report confirming that 68% of the public’s greatest fear about death is to die alone. The recent figures reflect Help the Aged’s report ‘End of Life Care’ which has been released today.

The report pronounced Help the Aged’s call that the government set specific polices regarding death for older adults living alone.

"There is a specific need for the elderly who live alone to feel secure about the end of life care available to them. No one should have to suffer the indignity and fear that is often associated with dying alone," said Social Worker and Lifeline Manager Jonathan Clark, speaking on behalf of Premier Media Group.

Dame Cicely Saunders, 87, founder of St Christopher’s Hospice movement and a practicing Christian, said the elderly can face death with a greater ease when they feel supported and secure. "If you feel safe you can face death. The young old should look after the old old so they are not left to die a lonely death. All you have to do is be a good neighbour."

Reports from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) have confirmed that the aged were not given enough support in choosing a nursing home. In regard to this, Premier Media Group is asking what can be done to fight the discrimination against the elderly in the care they receive when they are coming closer to facing death.

This morning at 9am, Premier Christian Radio’s breakfast presenter John Pantry spoke with a representative from Help the Aged about the recent report and the leader of a Christian helpline from the aged.
