Fans of Fox's breakout serial drama "Prison Break" got the surprise of their lives when the network announced last year that the show will get a reboot with 10 episodes, which was later cut to nine.

Now, avid viewers are raring to find out when the fifth season of "Prison Break" will finally be aired. According to the Movie News Guide website, however, fans of the show will have to wait for at least a year before they see the TV series return to the small screen.

The website nevertheless reported that "Prison Break" Season 5 is currently under development, and is likely to air in early 2017. Fox Network, however, has yet to release an official release date for the much-awaited return of the show.

While details on the release date are scarce, more and more details on the plot of the upcoming season of "Prison Break" are emerging.

For instance, Entertainment Weekly reported last week that the show's protagonist, Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller), will sport a new set of tattoos on his lower arms when the show returns next year.

It can be recalled that Scofield's tattoos on his upper body played a crucial role in the earlier seasons of "Prison Break."

"The tattoos are functional in a different way," Miller said of his latest ink, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly. "It's less of a blueprint. They serve a very specific purpose."

Based on the trailer of "Prison Break" Season 5 earlier released for the public, the return of the show will focus on how Michael Scofield will once again attempt to escape a Yemeni prison.

The return of the show will also see familiar faces like Dominic Purcell, who plays Michael's brother Lincoln, who is instrumental in his escape plan.

Michael's love interest, Sara, will also return, with Sara Wayne Callies reprising her role. An addition to the next season will be Michael's son, played by Christian Michael Cooper.
