Ubisoft has announced that the Standard Edition of "Rainbow Six Siege" has been replaced with the Advanced Edition, effectively giving the two-year-old game a $20 price hike.

Announced on their official blog, Ubisoft wrote that the Advanced Edition will be taking the spot of the Standard Edition as the second-cheapest option for playing "Rainbow Six Siege," just a step above the grind-heavy Starter Edition.

According to the post, the Advanced Edition is nearly identical to how the old Standard Edition functioned with the added bonus of 600 Rainbow Six Credits, the in-game currency, and 10 Outbreak Collection Packs, which are loot boxes for the game that can only be purchased with real world money.

Essentially, players will be paying an additional $20 for loot boxes and in-game credits.

And, as most people would expect, this was received with harsh criticism, especially from the game's fanbase. An increase in the entry fee for the game will only dissuade new people from purchasing the game, especially given the poor reputation it had at launch.

There was also some criticism coming from veteran players of the game who were angry that, despite the fact they have been playing and supporting the game for far longer, anyone who purchases the game through the Advanced Edition will have access to more in-game items than someone who has been playing since 2015.

Fortunately for players, it seems Ubisoft heard the complaints and immediately tried to stem the tide. According to a post on the "Rainbow Six Siege" Subreddit, the team at Ubisoft has decided to revert their decision on removing the Standard Edition from the store and will keep it at its current asking price.

They also wrote that anybody who plays a match before March 6 will receive a free skin for Ash, one of the operators in the game.

Finally, they made a statement regarding the current status of the Starter Edition, the cheapest version of the game. While they did not go into any details regarding what they plan to change with this version, they have acknowledged the complaints and issues surrounding it.

"We recognize that this has been a point of frustration for new players, as well as existing players bringing their friends into the game, and have been working on how to make this process more fluid," they wrote.
