'Resident Evil: Revelations 2' update: Game to use microtransactions, 200 missions for Raid Mode

Capcom's upcoming episodic survival horror video game "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" is getting microtransactions, which can be used for an important item called Life Crystals. However, these microtransactions will only be employed on the title's Raid Mode. In the point-based mode, players need to pick a famous character of their liking and destroy packs of enemies.

Life Crystals come in handy once players get killed during the missions in this mode. These items will save gamers the trouble of restarting the whole thing. This means that players can pick up where they left off before their character died. All they have to do is purchase Life Crystals with real-world money. For those who do not have cash to spare, Eurogamer reported that players can resort to Daily Missions to get these precious Life Crystals for free, as revealed by an unnamed Capcom representative.

Going back to Raid Mode, "Resident Evil Revelations 2" will have 54 Raid missions ready up front. These missions will increase as new episodes are launched every week. The first episode will be released on Feb. 24. The next one drops on March 3. Episode 3 will be out by March 10. The last one will be available by March 17 and by this time, Raid missions should have grown to 200.

Initially, the Raid Mode can be played either solo or via split-screen co-op. According to Bloody Disgusting, more episodes of online co-op will be added after the fourth episode as Capcom is working hard for the online Raid co-op to "function as expected."

"While this means a slight delay in online play, the feature will be present down the road," Capcom stated as quoted by Bloody Disgusting

"Resident Evil: Revelations 2" will enrich characters with new and more menacing skills while outfitting them with pristine weapons and handsome weapon parts. Lastly, there is a new set of maps that players will have to explore in the new installment.

While Capcom buffs up the game, fans can look forward to its release to the PS4, PS Vita, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC platforms on Feb. 25. For players who will use a PC to go through Claire Redfield's adventures, Dealzon offers a copy with a 20 percent discount. The "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" Complete Season is also up for grabs, which includes all four episodes, two bonus episodes, Raid mode character Hunk, the Raid Mode Throwback Map Pack, and the Character Costume Pack. The promotion runs until Feb. 2.
