The third season of "Rick and Morty" is right around the corner.

Writers Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbiener spoke on the Chicks Who Script podcast on Sept. 28 to discuss how they come up with the story for the animated sci-fi comedy.

The writers recalled how the writers of Adult Swim's highly-anticipated animation series painstakingly go through a challenging writing process to make sure that each episode will have the best story.

According to the writers, the writing process normally starts by breaking down stories in large groups, then divide specific episodes among individual writers. Then, they will write and rewrite the scripts repeatedly, together with the animated series' co-creator Dan Harmon.

"There's rewriting every step of the process to just make the story as good as possible," Rosbe stated. "How can this be funnier? How can this be better? Everybody would be fine with this, but it's not good enough yet," she went on to say.

Aside from detailing their writing process, Rosbe and Carbiener also revealed that the production for the show's third season is almost finished.

During the time of the interview, Rosbe revealed that they finished the script of "Rick and Morty" season 3 four weeks ago. Although, she also revealed that she is still unsure about the schedule of animation production of the show in the hands of Canada's Bardel Entertainment.

However, Carbiener said that the production of the show's animation will also be over soon. "I think in a week or two they're going to have screenings in the production office," the writer stated in the podcast.

While waiting for the actual announcement about the release date of "Rick and Morty" season 3, speculations claimed that the series will finally feature Rick's wife in one of its episodes. She may or may not help Rick in getting out of the galactic federal prison in the upcoming season. However, the rumor remains unverified.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to return to Adult Swim before the end of the year.
