Fans of the humorous and dark cartoon series "Rick and Morty" hope that the show will return for its third season by the end of 2016. In season 3, Evil Morty will appear to cause chaos in Rick and Morty's lives.

The much-awaited release of season 3 of "Rick and Morty" has no definite launch date yet. Fans were only given a hint at last season's post-credits scene where Mr. Poopy Butthole said that the story will continue in a year and a half.

The last episode aired on October 14, 2015, and fans expect season 3 to premiere in March 2017. But at the Magic City Comic Con 2016 last January, creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon said that they were expecting to release season 3 at the end of 2016. Harmon said, "I think Season 3 is—we're targeting around the end of this year. You guys do realize we're at the beginning of this year?"

They also revealed a lot of other interesting information about the upcoming third season of "Rick and Morty." Harmon said that next season will have 14 episodes, making it four episodes longer than the previous seasons of "Rick and Morty." Unfortunately, the iconic Mr. Poopy butthole may not return in season 3. However, he is in "Pocket Mortys" as a guide for players at the beginning of the game.

According to GamenGuide, an Evil Morty will appear in season 3 of the show. This Evil Morty will hold Rick hostage after setting him free. Morty and his sister Summer will go on a mission to bring back Rick and banish Evil Morty. Other characters such as Rick's ex-wife Mrs. Sanchez and Mr. Meeseeks will be coming back in season 3 to bring more adventures to the show.

Fans are encouraged by series writer Mike McMahan to be patient for the upcoming season 3 of "Rick and Morty." In a Twitter post from McMahan, he said that fans can expect great episodes in the next season of "Rick and Morty."
