Seattle Seahawks quarterback and outspoken Christian Russell Wilson gave thanks to God in spite of his team's loss at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

"Thank You God for the opportunity," he tweeted after the defeat. "We'll be back... I will never waiver on who He has called me to be..."

It appeared the Seahawks had the game won before a questionable call led to an interception and a New England Patriots victory. 

Instead of letting top running back Marshawn Lynch run the ball into the end zone, the Seahawks decided to throw the ball. Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler intercepted the pass. 

"That was the worst play call I've seen in the history of football," NFL legend Emmitt Smith wrote on Facebook. Many fans on social media agreed. Wilson, however, aid he trusted the call. 

"You could hand the ball to Marshawn, that's a great option," Wilson told reporters. "You can also throw it, which is a great option. We thought we had 'em. I thought I was going to make a touchdown when I threw it, when I let it go I thought it was gonna be game over.

"When they called the call I just trusted it like I always do, and just trusted us, trust my instincts, trust the play and there wasn't really anything else that we could do," he continued.

"I put the blame on me. I'm the one that threw it. It's something you learn from, something you grow from."

On Monday, Wilson tweeted Psalms 18:1, and remained encouraged. "Every setback has a major comeback," he wrote. "#GreaterIsComing."

The final score was 28-24, with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady being honored as MVP.
