The Sacramento Kings will soon part ways with veteran forward Caron Butler who is set to be traded immediately after Christmas Day, with him being informed about the pending deal.

According to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN, the Kings "pledged" to Butler that they will help him find a team where he can play a bigger role.

Butler, a well-travelled journeyman in the National Basketball Association (NBA), has spent more time on the bench this season than playing on the court.

This season is the 35-year-old's first with the Kings and has only played in eight games which include one starting stint.

Butler is averaging a career-low 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in 10 minutes of action per outing.

The Kings are filled with young talent at the small forward position that is why Butler's services are rarely needed by the team this season.

Stein added in his report that the Milwaukee Bucks, which is Butler's hometown team and an organization he already played for before, is a "likely destination" for him if a trade deal will happen.

According to Stein, the addition of a veteran player in Butler may help Milwaukee which has a core of young and budding players but are on a 10–17 start this season.

The Bucks have played great at times this season, even ending the Golden State Warriors' winning streak, but are unable to show consistency like the Kings.

If Butler joins the Bucks, it is also uncertain if he will be getting significant playing minutes, although his experience will surely be of help in the development of young forwards like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker, and Khris Middleton.

The last time Butler donned a Milwaukee uniform was in the 2013–14 season, where he played in 34 regular season games which include 13 starts.

During that stint with the Bucks, Butler averaged 11 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 24.1 minutes played per game.
