Samsung Galaxy S5 release date may be Feb. 24, 2014; Specs and features include metal body and 2K 5inch display

Samsung is likely to release its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at the Mobile World Congress which will be held in Spain, Barcelona in February.

Tech analysts are pretty confident that the next-generation smartphone will be launched next month after Samsung's design director Dong-hoon Chang leaked the release date to a Korean news outlet.

Chang reportedly said the Galaxy S5 may launch with a flexible display and a body made of different material.

Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 in March 2013, and the timing is about right for the Korean tech giant to release an upgrade to one of its flagship phones. If Samsung follows the same pattern, the S5 will most likely launch in the first quarter of the new year.

The Galaxy S5 smartphone may finally satisfy customers' wishes of a metal unibody case, rather than Samsung's traditional plastic approach. The latest comments by Chang allude to the rumors that Samsung has yielded to customers' demands.

However, the metal-body device may not be the Galaxy S5, but an all new Galaxy F line that will pack premium features such as the metal body.

Along with metal-body casing, a new feature called an iris eye scanning sensor is rumored to have been added to improve security. As usual, Samsung has not released any official information on the specs or features of its upcoming smartphone, so there is no confirmation that this is true.

Other specs rumors point to an ultra high definition 2k (Quad HD) 5 inch display with a resolution of 1440x2560p. If this is true, the Galaxy S5 will be the first smartphone to have such a high resolution.

Along with the crystal clear display, it will pack a powerful 64-bit processor, 3GB RAM and a whopping 4000mAh battery. The latest Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a 3200 mAh that is big enough to power the large device for the whole day. A 4000mAH battery on a regular 5 inch phone would mean that the phone will last up to two days with a single charge.

Meanwhile, the annual Consumer Electronics Show will be kicking off in Las Vegas today and will run till Jan. 10. Panasonic and LG will be introducing new TVs this year, along with more affordable 4k TVs by other companies.
