As per the recent reports, the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus flagships from Samsung will not boast major improvements over their predecessors. It appears that the South Korean tech firm will have a hard time topping off its previous creation, especially if the S9 smartphones will only sport the same Infinity Display signature, along with other minor hardware upgrades. Perhaps the most disappointing rumor is the Galaxy S9 Plus retaining the same battery size as the S8 Plus, although the handset is still said to feature longer battery life in spite of this.

The latest leaked photos of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus reveal that the larger S9 variant will have a 3,500mAh battery, exactly the same power capacity as the S8 Plus, WCCFTech reported. However, there is a little hardware tweak in the S9 Plus that will give the handset an extended battery life. Some tech experts would think that the longer battery life is due to the power-efficient mobile processor or SoC, althought the secret lies with the handset's special motherboard design.

According to SlashLeaks, both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will have a similar motherboard configuration as the iPhone X. Moreover, this new motherboard design will allow the manufacturer to make a more compact placement of the hardware components inside the device. A tightly-arranged setup will create more space inside the phone, in which a special power efficiency technique can be applied.

Of course, the rumored Exynos 9810 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset in the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus would contribute to the power saving feature of the smartphone, but adapting a new motherboard design to increase efficiency would add more potential to extend the battery life.

Meanwhile, a seperate leak suggests that the regular-sized Samsung Galaxy S9 will have a 3,200mAh battery, which is larger compared to Galaxy S8's 3,000mAh battery. Many users find the S8's battery capacity as just average, as a 3,000mAh battery is only good for a whole day use with a single charge. The source of the leak claims to own the test unit of the Galaxy S9.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are expected to launch sometime in Febuary or March.
