'Scandal' season 5 spoilers: Fitz and Liv's romance continues

ABC

It was chaos in the White House and beyond during the season 4 finale of "Scandal" except for Olivia and Fitz, who were reunited and who reaffirmed their love in the midst of the situation. This, according to series creator Shonda Rhimes, will be where "Scandal" season 5 will start from.

"That was a pretty harrowing place where the world had been blown apart for everybody except Olivia and Fitz, who were left on the Truman balcony... doing some kissing,"  she said during the Television Critics Association summer tour via Deadline, after declaring that there isn't much to spoil for the new season.

Kerry Washington, who plays Liv, said the same thing when she spoke to Access Hollywood.

"We pretty much come in right on time to figure out what the heck happened after that balcony and how are people dealing with it," the actress said, also revealing that the season 5 premiere is "pretty awesome, worth the wait, and not what she expected."

Although Liv and Fitz seem to be getting a chance at romance with Mellie out of the picture, the world around them continues to crumble.

With Jake heartbroken and ready to leave, Huck becoming Quinn's target, and Rowan Pope possibly returning, Rhimes said, "Things weren't going so well for people, and we pick up right there in that environment."

On the subject of Huck and Quinn becoming enemies, Katie Lowes, who plays the latter, told TV Fanatic that her character is "really in a huge pickle."

Elaborating her plan to kill Huck and the doubts that come with it, she said, "It's really a conflicting emotion of do you kill your best friend/ mentor/ sexual lover/ all the different various relationships we've been to each other and the man you lick every once in a while for kicks?"

Although she believes that Huck crossed the line by killing innocent people for his amusement, the actress thinks her character is going too far with entertaining the idea of murdering him.

"Scandal" season 5 will premiere on Sept. 24.
