'Scandal' season 6 spoilers: Happier times for Olivia?

"Scandal" season 6 will have a lighter tone.ABC

The past season of "Scandal" was certainly one of the toughest for Olivia (Kerry Washington). However, it looks like brighter days are coming for everyone's favorite fixer come "Scandal" season 6.

Last season was so dark that Olivia committed murder— Vice President Andrew Nichols (Jon Tenney) was on the receiving end of Liv's horrific turn. It was also in season 5 where she did abortion. This stage in Liv's life couldn't be any darker so "Scandal" season 6 is promising to be lighter.

"I don't know if you all will notice this — because Olivia beats people to death with chairs and stuff — but I feel like I can see it. There's an optimism that exists in the work now," creator Shonda Rhimes said during the Vulture Festival as quoted by Entertainment Weekly.

She then compared "Scandal" season 6 "Grey's Anatomy," another one of her Thank God It's Thursday favorite. "On Grey's, there's definitely a sense of optimism. And on Scandal, we're heading some place that's optimistic," Rhimes went on to say.

Indeed, the latest season of "Grey's Anatomy" showed a significant change in tone. It was far more upbeat in tone and the finale did not even involve any death or loss, just the characters flipping a new chapter in their lives.

This might be the case for Liv in "Scandal" season 6 as well. Rumor has it that the new season might see the reunion of Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Liv, who will be working closely with Jake (Scott Foley) now that he has been chosen as Mellie's (Bellamy Young) vice president.

Liv and Jake's development as lovers in "Scandal" season 5 definitely worried fans of Liv and Fitz's romance. This development is expected to continue in "Scandal" season 6. It is said that through this, Fitz will feel jealousy and fear that he will lose Liv.

"Scandal" season 6 will premiere early next year on ABC.
