'Scandal' Season 7 Episode 18 release date, spoilers news: Finale to feature Olivia helping Mellie in court

There is only one episode left before the hit political drama thriller series from ABC, "Scandal," comes to a close. The show is expected to wrap up with the biggest scandal that the United States of America has ever faced, with the president of the country accused of a heinous crime. However, this will be the last chance for Olivia (Kerry Washington) in the series to do her magic, as she must prove inside the court room that President Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) is innocent.

"Scandal" season 7 episode 18 will serve as the closing chapter of the series, and all the tension from the previous episodes has finally led to a final judgement that will affect the lives of the Gladiators and their allies, forever. For one, Mellie is on the verge of being kicked out of the White House and placed behind bars for an attempt to kill Cyrus (Jeff Perry).

As the viewers have learned, this was all Cyrus' fabricated story so that he could snatch the presidential seat from Mellie. Luckily for the president, Olivia will be by her side to defend her, as per TVLine.

Proving Mellie's innocence will be a tricky job for Olivia, not to mention that Cyrus has a cunning and power-hungry ally, Jake (Scott Foley). Cyrus was able to convince Jake to join his side after promising him a high post in the cabinet, once he is declared as the new president of the United States.

With this, Olivia will be fighting not only one, but two masterminds, and she will have to pay closer attention to Jake as the latter has pretty much proven himself as a completely cold-hearted person.

The promo for episode 18 shows Olivia being called next in the witness stand, but the catch here is that Cyrus and Jake have been pressuring Olivia to drag Mellie in her testimony.

The latest spoilers do not indicate if Olivia will give in to the pressure, or if she will stand by her client until the very end of the trial, but it is clear that Olivia is concerned about the president. The most important advice that Olivia has given Mellie is to tell the entire truth in the court, no matter what the cost is. Hopefully, Olivia has one final trick to pull in "Scandal" to save Mellie that will surprise everyone.

"Scandal" season 7 episode 18 will air next Thursday, April 19 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
