'Scream Queens' season 2 spoilers: show might follow 'American Horror Story' format

During this year's Golden Globes ceremony, actress Jamie Lee Curtis stated that if she won the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, as she was nominated for her role in "Scream Queens," there would most definitely be a chance of the show being renewed for a second season. That, unfortunately, did not come to pass.

"A win would mean a second season for 'Scream Queens,'" Jamie stated in a report from E! Online. "So I want to make it altruistic. I want it for the crew, the cast and all the hundreds of people who worked so hard to make this so funny and great. That's what would happen for me."

Although she did not win the award, "Scream Queens" is still among the shows being honored at this year's Palayfest. According to a report from TV Line, the series will be the main highlight of the second day of the event, scheduled for March 12. This is speculated to give more attention to the series and possibily renew the show for one more season.

Fans speculate that the Palayfest and Curtis' nomination alone should be proof that there is enough recognition to get the show renewed. Viewer ratings did not fall below the median line despite some harsh criticisms against the show's plot and pacing.

The Christian Post also points out if the show would get renewed for a second season, it might not be a direct sequel. The report states that Curtis also mentioned the series would instead follow the format of "American Horror Story," in which each season follows a separate, stand-alone story and setting.

However, despite the use of "American Horror Story" being an anthology series, there have been times where it proves they all take place in the same universe. A few characters have appeared in more than one season, hinting that these separate stories are still connected. This may be the same format that "Scream Queens" season 2 will use.
