Selena Gomez unfollows Demi Lovato, Gigi Hadid: Why did she unfollow all but 37 Instagram accounts?

In the midst of Selena Gomez rekindling her love affair with on-and-off again beau Justin Bieber, she unfollows 279 accounts -- including those of friends Demi Lovato and Gigi Hadid -- for no apparent reason.

In an interesting turn of events, the most followed person on Instagram did a massive reboot of her account last week. She kicked it off by cutting down the accounts she was following, from 316 to 37. This includes her close pals Lovato, Hadid, and Camila Cabello, her assistant Theresa Mingus, her co-stars from "Wizards of Waverly Place" and the cast of Netflix's "13 Reasons Why."

She did not give any explanation for her actions, or why she left alone the 37 remaining accounts -- which include those of close friend Taylor Swift, Jessica Alba, Francia Raisa, Julia Michaels, Amy Schumer, and a number of fan accounts.

Apart from unfollowing hundreds of people, the 25-year-old singer also edited her bio and changed her profile picture to that of her mother's, Mandy Teefey.

Instead of posting an explanation for her actions, the "Wolves" singer posted a photo of her in front of her old home in Grand Prairie, without any mention of her Instagram overhaul.

"The home I grew up in, from birth to 13... (no one was home when I knocked this time lol) I visit this place every chance I get," she said in the caption.

Fans can rest assure, however, that Gomez is not waging any sort of Instagram war against other celebrities. A day after she unfollowed Lovato, she still commented on the "Heart Attack" singer's post.

Interestingly, Gomez's use of her mom's photo for her profile signifies that there is also no bad blood between them, even though Teefey was earlier reported to be against her daughter's renewed romance with Bieber.

Teefey told Gossip Cop that she is "not happy" that they are back together, but still supports Gomez. "Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe and healthy," she said.
