Fans of "Shovel Knight" may want to start updating their holiday wish lists, as Nintendo has just confirmed that the game is getting its very own amiibo. According to IGN, the gaming company confirmed at a pre-PAX Nindies at Night event in Seattle that the game is having its own figure. 

Yacht Club Games, the creator of "Shovel Night," also made the announcement on its website on Thursday, Aug. 27, revealing that they have been working on the amiibo for over a year. The site posted a picture of the blue figure in its package, and another one in close-up, and according to them, the amiibo can interact with other amiibo characters and unlock brand new ways to play the game. 

One of the figure's functions is that it can unlock an exclusive co-op mode so a player can join a friend's game. The amiibo also gives the player deep customization options such as defeating enemies and finding treasure, earning abilities, relics, and powers, and it can even change the appearance of the Shovel Knight. 

The figure gives the game a lot of extra value, as it can be used both on the 3DS and Wii-U version of the game. Gamerant reports that the figure will give the Wii-U version of "Shovel Knight" a full co-op experience, while both versions of the game let users customize the Shovel Knight's appearance and save the changes on the amiibo. 

There is no information yet on how much the figure will cost. In last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Gamesradar reported that pricing was at $12.99 per figure when Nintendo released amiibo toys for Mario, Link, Peach, Pikachu, and Donkey Kong, so it's possible that an amiibo for "Shovel Knight" will more or less be around the same price range. 

"Shovel Knight" is the first independent game to get an amiibo. More information about the figure's release date is expected to be revealed soon.
