Nostalgia is quite a huge moneymaker for Nintendo, as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) Classic Edition console revival has sold more than 4 million units.

Nintendo has this announced via its latest financial results briefing. The financial success for their consoles, including the WiiU and the Switch, was also discussed. It is worth noting that this milestone for the SNES Classic Edition includes units sold in the United States as well as the different versions in Japan, Europe, and Australia.

With that said, this probably does not come as much of a surprise for some people since the said classic console was notorious last year for running out of stock just a few minutes after its official release. Some people even took advantage of this by hoarding the consoles and auctioning them on eBay for ridiculously inflated prices, fooling desperate fans into buying the SNES Classic Edition for a lot more than the suggested retail price.

It can also be recalled that the SNES Classic Edition began settling its own impressive sales milestone last year where the console has sold as much as 2 million units back in October. This was despite the limited supply of the console and the frustration of a lot of the fans due to the shortage. This meant that the SNES Classic was on its way to an increasing sales trend already, and it was perhaps quite a coveted Holiday wish list item.

For those who are unfamiliar with the SNES Classic Edition, the console unit is a miniature replica of the original SNES released in Japan during the year 1990. The Classic Edition contains two controllers similar to the ones used to the original and has the same nostalgic 16-bit graphics capability and was also preloaded with some of the most loved '90s video games like "Star Fox" and "Super Mario."

Nintendo has stated that it has no plans of stopping production for the SNES Classic Edition in order to meet increasing demands this year.
