Samsung Galaxy A5 vs Sony Xperia M4 Aqua specs comparison: Battle of the budget mid-range smartphones

Top mobile brands released their newest line of mid-range phones in the past couple of months, giving consumers more options to purchase innovative Android smartphones without having to spend a lot.

During the recently concluded Mobile World Congress this month in Barcelona, Spain, Japanese mobile phone manufacturer Sony Mobile unveiled the new Xperia M4 Aqua, which offers an array of interesting features that users would like their smartphones to have. For instance, the device is advertised as a fully waterproof phone, a feature that would certainly be appealing to buyers who love to go outdoors. 

But can the soon-to-be released Sony Xperia M4 Aqua stand against other popular mid-range phones like the Samsung Galaxy A5?

Here is a detailed comparison between the two midrange devices:

Display and Dimension:

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua's 5.0-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen comes with a body measuring 5.73 x 2.86 x 0.29 inches that weighs 4.80 oz. It has a scratch resistant glass and has a multi-touch capability for up to 4 fingers. 

Meanwhile, the 5.0-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display of the Samsung Galaxy A5 comes with a 5.48 x 2.74 x 0.26 inch body and weighs 4.34 oz. It also has a multi-touch capacity. 

Internal Specs: 

The Xperia M4 Aqua houses a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset with quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. It also comes with an Adreno 405 graphics card. The upcoming device is also equipped with a 2 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32 GB using its built-in MicroSD card slot. 

On the other hand, the December 2014-released Galaxy A5 has a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset with a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 306 graphics card. It has a bigger 16 GB built-in memory compared to the Xperia M4 Aqua, and it can be expanded up to 64 GB. It has the same RAM capacity as the Sony device since it also has 2 GB of RAM. 

The Xperia M4 Aqua is pre-installed with the Andriod 5.0 Lollipop operating system, while the Galaxy A5 runs using the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. 

Camera Features

Both the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua and the Samsung Galaxy A5 have 13-megapixel primary shooters, and their secondary cameras have 5-megapixel capacity.
