Skimming over the devices and their uses these days, one feature that could come in handy for mobile phones such as Sony's Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium is the fact that they can be used under water. Or can they?

Apparently waterproof can be defined vaguely, something that could possibly be tied up with watches. By saying waterproof, it means such devices are safe from accidental spillages or perhaps getting wet when it rains.

However, given that most devices right now are used to take pictures under water (take beaches and pools) these days, folks planning to buy the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium may do well to take into account that waterproof for these devices does not necessarily follow that they can be used underwater to take pictures.

"Sony devices that are tested for their waterproof abilities are placed gently inside a container filled with tap water and lowered to a depth of 1.5 meters," says Sony's waterproof device information page. "After 30 minutes in the container, the device is gently taken out and its functions and features are tested."

Make no mistake about it, there will be folks who will probably still get hold of a Sony Xperia Z5 or Z5 premium. But the thing is, don't go foolishly trying the device underwater (unless you probably use one of those sealed waterproof container bags) since it may go bonkers.

Would this waylay folks into getting a Sony Xperia Z5 or Z5 Premium? Probably not. Although the waterproofing angle does seem like a bummer, it remains that the phone still comes armed with a pretty impressive camera on a mobile phone. A 23-megapixel main camera is still something that makes it stand out, especially for the ones who want a high resolution camera to snap shots, not necessarily under water all the time.

The Sony Xperia Z5 is scheduled to hit shelves this October while the Z5 Premium will follow a month later.
